Pryor Scrapbook Dr. Joe, 1986

Dear Dr. Joe, We had a good meeting in Atlanta. You were being missed so much that before the first session I was encouraged to go to the mall and buy a bow tie to wear to make everyone feel at home. I did so, and that was worth some warm smiles. I need to report to you that Joe Hightower was not selected as the Distinguished Alumnus. The honoree will be a woman who graduated from Hastings College back in the 1950's. She is chair of the department of mathematics at American Univer– sity, is a published author of algebra textbooks, is a lawyer who has specialized in gender pay discrimination (testifying as an expert before congressional committees, etc.), and is chair of the board of Amnesty International, the group that researches and opposes political imprisonment around the world. Her vita is 20 pages long! Her application arrived only a few days before Atlanta, but I had been told by the Hastings sponsor that it was being sent. We are establishing the policy of keeping all nominations on file in the office for five years, and at that time we will contact the nominating chapter to ask if the application needs to be updated. So Joe will be around for the next time. He is deserving too, of course, and I expect he will h e named sometime in the future. Everyone hopes you can be at the convention in Atlanta, and many send their greetings.
