Pryor Scrapbook Dr. Joe, 1982

-2- "Very good, Pledge Rhodes. Now we need a couple of volunteers to fire the bazooka," Byron continued. "I' 11 fire the bazooka, Sir!" "So will I, Sir! " "Thank you, Pledge Istre and Pledge Woodhouse. It's exciting to see your enthusiasm," Byron smiled. "And now, Pledge Wry, we need a volunteer to be the explosion." "Uh, I'll be the explosion, Sir." Jon replied with some reservation. "Alright, Pledges, listen closely. This is how we play "Bazooka," Pledge Istre, you and Woodhouse lift the bazooka up on your shoulders, and when you're given the command to fire all three of you will say, 'three - two - one, Whoosh!' Pledge Wry, when . they say the word "Whoosh", you must explode right then. Do you understand'?" "Yes, Sir! " "Good. Now let's hear you explode, Pledge," Byron said in complete seriousness. "BOOM!!!" Jon shouted with great enthusiasm. "Boom, Sir," Byron· corrected. "Yes, Sir. Boom, Sir, Sir." Jon said through his blindfold. The hardest part about being a pledgemaster is trying not to laugh. . "Pledge Wry, do you hear that sound?" Byron demanded., Jon listened intently. In the distance I was shuffling my feet through the leaves and saying, "Kachink-Ka-chink-Ka-chink." "What does that sound like, Pledge?" Byron asked. "Uh. a squirrell, Sir'?" "Oh, Pledge! " Byron said in disgust. "That is the enemy tank. Pledge Wry, once the command is given to fire the bazooka, you must crawl on your hands and knees and find the tank before Rhodes, Istre, and Woodhouse say 'Whoosh'; because, Pledge Wry, do you know what happens if you have to explode when you aren't holding on to the enemy tank?!" "No, Sir." "You'll be a dud! Do you want to be a dud, ·Pledge'?" "No, Sir! " Jon exclaimed. "Alright. Then be a good explosion and blow up that tank." Jon was told to get down on his hands and knees and D. Mark gave the command to fire. As the countdown began Wry was a little hesitant so I just walked away from him and left him to explode in a small pile of leaves. "What happened, Pledge Wry'?" Byron asked. Jon answered sheepishly, "I'm a dud, Sir." "Maybe this is too hard for you, Pledge Wry • • • " Byron began. "Oh, no, Sir! I'll get that enemy tank. Just give me another chance. Please, Sir!" Istre and Woodhouse with Rhodes on their shoulders were all cheering Jon on. · So the game began again with Jon much more deter– mined. Poor Jon. He worked so hard, but as the enemy tank I was rather elusive. ·Jon blew up two trees, a large rock, D. Mark Moore, a branch and he · even blew up Byron once.
