Pryor Scrapbook Dr. Joe, 1982

Dr. Joseph E. Pryor Harding University Searcy, AR 72143 Dear Dr. Pryor, Rt. 3 Box 1-F Mammoth Spring, AR 72554 October 18, 1982 Please accept my kindest thanks for the many years of service you have given to. -young people from throughout the world. · During my first few months at Harding I began to develop a great measure of respect for "Dr. Joe." In the New Science Building many stories were told of the "old days" when Dr. Pryor was the entire Chemistry and Physics faculty. I have had many opportunities to be thankful for the high academic standards which you have upheld during your years as Dean of the College. It was very gratifying to attend a prqfessional school and feel more than confident about the preparation received at Harding. One of my most vivid memories of college days is the image of a very dry, stern man in thick glasses and black robes behind a podium at the conclusion of Pledge Week. Each fall I think back to the very serious (but later hilarious) lecture you gave the pledges on the almost-eternal doom associated with being blackballed. Your act as Kangaroo Court Judge was one of the best theatrical performances I had the pleasure of watching during my four years at Harding. Your sponsorship of so many campus organizations and activities has made you a personal acquaintance and friend to many students. I came to appreciate your effectiveness as an organizer and leader while serving as an officer of the Alpha Chi Scholarship Society at Harding. Harding University would simply be just another school without its dedicated faculty of committed Christians. My five brothers and sisters and I have counted it a great privilege to receive an education in a Christian environment. An added bonus has been to see the leaders in the classroom also take charge as the leaders in Christ's Church. Dr. Pryor, you have my greatest respect for being both an educator of high standards and a Christian leader of vision and consistency. May God grant you many more years of service to Christian education and to the spreading of the gospel of Christ. In Christ's service, John E. Petty.
