I found the same thing to be equally true in law school, and I am ever grateful to· you for having assembled the type of faculty that made my excellent undergraduate education possible and for having so directed Harding during my years there that I received a liberal arts education second to none. I would be remiss if I failed to acknow– ledge the wonderful way in which you and your wife opened your home to TNT every year for social functions, giving us an opportunity to get out of the dorm and into a home. I am confident I - shall never forget the warmth of your home, or even things like your bright, red front door and the beautiful golden harp in your living room. You and your wife can never fully appreciate how much those opportunities meant . to me. Finally, I have always respected and admired your ability to gain the confidence of students in even the most trying circumstances. I remember a cold, rainy, winter day in either late 1968 or early 1969 when you stood on the steps of the Administration Building and talked with a group of students about why Dr. Attaberry would not ~e returning to the faculty the following year. It was a situation that had all the potential for a rather nasty confrontation, which I feel certain would probably have materialized had anyone in the administration of the school other than yourself been present, but because of the great respect that all Harding students had for you, the explanation was well received, and at least that group of students went away fully convinced that everyone had been treated fairly in a difficult situation. For all these reasons and so many more that I could never enumerate, my interest in higher education and· my love for Harding is much greater than it ever would have been had you not been there. I can never wear or even see another wearing. a bow tie without being reminded of you and having warm thoughts as a result of being reminded of you.
