Pryor Scrapbook Bessie Mae, 2008

Quotes from Bessie Mae's neighbors: Louise Ganus: When Dr. Joe & Bessie Mae moved to our neighborhood in the early 1990s that put them in Cliffs (Dr. Ganus & Louise's) Care Group 11. Soon, Dr. Joe was using a wheel chair. Bessie Mae asked for no help to attend the annual chili supper, but pushed him to our home where his wheel chair was placed at the dining table and Bessie Mae's assistance to him and her demeanor was a lesson for all to observe - and realize that marriage is for "in sickness and health until death do us part". When they got the van with a lift, she called ahead and men were there to bring his chair into the church. They never missed! No excuses. Marilyn Allen: "Bessie Mae - sweet, gentle and kind... active helping others, whether it's in AWH or in a pre-school Bible Class. She lovingly took care of Dr. Joe. God bless you Bessie Mae! Love, Marilyn ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' '"' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' Betty Alston: Bessie Mae and Joe moved into our neighborhood adding quality to what was already a marvelous area in which to live. They were always.very hospitable. She loved to entertain and did it often and well. When you entertained she was always there to help by fixing food, flowers, etc. Bessie Mae has always loved having a garden and she was very generous with the fruit of her labor. Her fresh vegetables were welcomed by us-the recipients. We are a group who would rather go to activities together rather than alone. Bessie Mae was so free to offer to drive or to join us when someone else drove. She's been a precious, generous neighbor. I've appreciated you, Bessie Mae, for a very long time! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Dot: Bessie Mae took care of Dr. Joe for ten years. On occasion I would sit with him to let Bessie Mae go to the grocery store or to get her hair done. At times he would be at the kitchen table eating his lunch. The large area ofwindows allowed him to see the many birds feeding at different places on the back porch or in hanging bird feeders. Bessie Mae always checked to see that he had everything he needed to enjoy his lunch, speaking to him in endearing terms: Darling, sweetheart, etc .and assuring him that she would be back shortly. NOW a footnote: This past year she did have a would-be suitor who was looking for a wife. Bessie Mae was too kindhearted to hurt his feelings, but she finally realized that she was going to have to "spell it out" for him. She had this to say to him, "I don't want to get married! I could NEVER find anyone like Joe Pryor!" (By the way, this man is getting married next month to a long-time friend!) We're glad it's not you, Bessie Mae! Your neighbors would miss being with you! All of your neighbors love and appreciate you so very much!! May God continue to bless you with many more years of service to him and to Associated Women for Harding!
