' ' Dear Bessie Mae, Congratulations on your birthday. You su rely don't look as old as people do at that age! Memories flood my mind as I think abou t the years we have been associated here in Searcy. In early summer of 1953 Kenn eth, Larry and I visited Searcy in preparation for mo ving to teach at Harding that fall. You an d Joe were kind enough to take us into yo ur home overnight. You both were gracious host a nd hostess to us and made a nice impress ion. Larry was eighteen months old and I was expecting Steve as I remember. We were active in AWH together and at one point doing wedding receptions for the organization. We have decorated many a table for weddings, showers, teas etc. together. Do you remember the reception for Kenney Stamatis and bride to be in the Carr's bac kyard? Remember as we got the tables all set up and decorated, we noticed this dark cloud come up in the northwest? We had to m ove everything inside and it came a downpou r of giant proportions! The wedding was moved to the downtown church! Kenneth's and my association with you an d Joe goes back so many years. It has been a most pleasant one socially and with Harding. We had some great New Y ear's Eve celebrations, rook parties etc. W hat a blessing to have such good friends. My th anks to Joe for finally MAKING Kenneth isolate himself and finish his dis sertation for his doctorate! I look forward to our bus tour this summe r. It will be wonderful to be together.
