Bond. a-t 0 J ~ ~ ~ -· Many students had heard it said that freshman year was in some form or another a time of growth, but I had no way of knowing just how true that was until I experienced it for mysel£ I discovered it was not only a time of growth but of complete independence. I could rid myself of all prior perceptions and take risks. Most of all, to all of us freshmen, we wanted the year to be a time where we found our niche at Harding. As soon as the school year began, I was told to join a social club. The idea of having a family away from home sounded like such a valuable thing to be a part o£ Having a sisterhood to rejoice in victories and cry in the midst of hurts with me was a priceless treasure while journeying through that time in my life. When I joined a club this year, so many emotions came into play. The closer I got to club week, the more intense the feelings of nervousness, excitement, hopefulness and anxiety became. The club process terrified me; I based my fears on the horror stories I had heard from the rushing process of state schools. I should not have been so concerned; the three rounds of mixers and wondering whether or not I would get invited back for visitation proved to be stressful but worth every bit of effort in the end. My sister was active in a social club, and her best advice for me at the beginning of the year was to keep an open mind because there would be clubs that really surprised me. As it turned out, some clubs did unexpectedly catch my attention. With all the rule changes, none of us freshmen, nor many upperclassmen, knew what to expect or how successful the whole club process would be, but I knew it would still be memorable. I was given lots of advice, but in the end, all I knew was that I was ready to get through the next few weeks so I could finally be a part of the club sports, Jersey Fridays and Spring Sing performances with girls that I would consider my friends and family forever.
