picture perfect camPUs attracts students Freshman Jaren Stempfer studies on one of the fabled Harding swings that dots the campus' landscape. Throughout the year, students utilized and appreciated the campus in a variety of ways. Some students even admitted their decision to come to Harding was, among other reasons, because of the campus. Freshman Emily Arnold said she fell in love with Harding during her first visit. "I had visited other schools but nothing compared [to Harding]," Arnold said. "The landscape means nothing to some people, but it made the difference for me and influ· eneed my decision to come ." Junior Michael Barger said he also believed Harding's campus was nicer than some of the others he visited. "Even though the campus didn't have a bearing on my ultimate decision tg. come here, I liked it better than other places," Barger said. "When looking at Oklahoma Christian University compared to Harding, it was depressing. "The atmosphere was so dry at Oklahoma Christian and it seemed like a desert. It looked like all those bricks fell out of the sky and stacked on each other. Here you've got the shade of the trees, landscaping and grass. It seems to have more of a history to it." The grounds crew put many hours into maintaining the physical appearance of the campus. Johnny Ferguson, director of grounds beautification, said the physical re– sources department hired 11 people to maintain the campus grounds. "I love the campus because I'm an outdoors person," junior Johnna Staudinger said . "The front lawn is especially gorgeous when it snows.
