"We've been blessed with many excellent student presidents in the past 15 years that I've been president," President David Burks said. "Steve is among the best I've seen. He's doing a superb job in representing the students and the mission of the university." The duties of any president are similar, but Cloer quickly recognized how his role as student president of a Christian university differed from presidents of other schools. "It is so different at Harding because I also try to bring the student body closer to God," Cloer said. "It could be a burden because I feel like I'm the one responsible for pointing people to God and creating opportunities for them to serve God." Finding opportunities for the student body to serve has not been a difficult task. The SA's focus for the year was dedicated to service opportunities, which brought many new ideas for projects to the university. Senior class SA representative Aaron Etheridge believed that Cloer's delegation skills helped these new ideas become reality. "Cloer knows what tasks to take on and which ones are too big," Etheridge said. "It is important for the SA president to be able to delegate, and Steve is great at that." Cloer, who plans to attend Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis after graduation and then join a church-planting team or teach math, possesses qualities that ensure success later in life. "Steve has a great love for the lost, for evangelism and for missions," Burks said. "His commitment to the spiritual mission will make a great impact on this university." -Tiffany Johnston
