As an art major, she was required to complete a show to fulfill graduation requirements for the department. "Getting your work together lets everyone come in and look at it in the art gallery," Linda Mccue, graduate assistant in the art department, said. "The show gives art majors experience in framing their work and presenting it to the public." Shows did not consist of just paintings. Often other types of art, such as sculptures, jewelry and pottery, were on display. According to McCue, the art shows opened up financial opportunities as well. In some cases, people from the public who went to the shows wanted to buy the work they saw. Art majors spent many hours in the art building working on pieces for the shows. Like many majors at Harding, art involved a lot of hands-on work, which helped students gain experience in their field and taught them dedication to their work. Art majors are required to take classes in drawing, two- and three-dimensional design, color theory and art history. They also have the option of taking classes such as printmaking, weaving and computer graphics. This year the art department offered four degrees: the bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, bachelor of fine arts in painting and bachelor of fine arts in three-dimensional design. These degrees held many opportunities for students in teaching and art production. 62 people
