Junior Brian Dolinger and sophomore Erin Healy perform at the Aug. 22 Student Association watermelon mixer. Dolinger helped form a drum circle to evangelize in a creative way. GROUP OF STUDENTS FORM rum c1rcl'e Many Harding students discovered that impromptu drum beats and hand shakers are a great strategy in touching hearts and talking to people about Jesus. Sophomore Patrick Cone gathered friends to spread the Word through the use of music. First introduced to music evangelism when he began playing drums at age seven, he thought it would be a great way to get people to come together. "The music really creates an unspoken bond," Cone said. While holding drum circles on the Harding campus and at the River Market in Little Rock, Cone found that music appeals to people's souls. An advantage to drum circles is that you don't have to be musically inclined to participate. Passers-by were given one of a variety of TO E ANGELIZE hand accessories to use and were invited to play a few of their own beats. The drums used were mainly African drums, including the doumbeck, bongo and djembe. Hand accessories ranged from cowbells and beans in a bottle to chimes and tambourines. When the group went to Little Rock, intrigued people inquired about the interesting music and members of the group explained what they were doing and the inspiration behind their actions. "When the spirit moved us or convicted us, and they were ready to hear more about Jesus, we were really able to talk with them," senior Jeremy Anderson said. Anderson helped in coordinating plans with Cone, describing the event as inspirational for them and for their audiences. - Cheryl Brand Cullen Richardson-North Little Rock, Ark.
