HARDING OPENS ore estra FOR THE FACULTY President David Burks announced during the first week of chapel that because of another year of increased enrollment, floor seating was no longer available for the faculty in chapel. Elrod, political science professor. Another top ten list of nicknames for the faculty was sent out by Elrod, Dr. Jeff Hopper, dean of the honors college, and Dr. Glen Adams, assistant professor of psychology. Theemail listed such nicknames as "Hole of Holies" and "Pit Crew." The solution was to open the orchestra pit to seat 80 people. The pit was modified so the faculty was seated at the same level as the students on the first row. At first, the general feeling from the faculty was disbelief. Daniel Cherry, graduate assistant to the president, sent an e-mail to the faculty listing the top ten reasons that the pit was good. "Helisted things like 'You're making history' and 'You're setting a good example'," said Dr. Mark Because the pit had to be closed for the homecoming musical, members of the cast and crew held their own chapel service in Shores Chapel for several weeks prior to the performance. This created additional seats for faculty previously seated in the pit. Despite the jokes, the orchestra pit was simply another testament to Harding's continued growth. -Kira Leigh Greg Mead-Lawrenceville, Ga. Amanda Meadows-Searcy, Ark. Matt Meadows-Olive Branch, Miss.
